One of the most emblematic and well-known National Parks in the country is the Arenal Volcano National Park. It is characteristic to see incandescent lava sprout from the crater of the volcano offering a remarkable contrast to the tranquil nights of Costa Rica. In addition, you can enjoy Lake Arenal and activities such as hot springS, canopy, hiking and hanging bridges.
Then we can continue to Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge, considered the third most important wetland in the world. It is a must that you visit this sanctuary, named “Wetland of International Importance” in 1991. It is one of the most important wetlands in the country and was designated a “Global Protected Area” by conservation groups such as Ramsar. In addition, Caño Negro is home to the rarest species of plants, animals and birds in the world.

The Corredor Fronterizo Refuge, is a strip of land that runs from Punta Castilla in the Caribbean Sea to Bahía Salinas in the Pacific Ocean. This area is a very important biological corridor between the Tortuguero conservation area, the Tamborcito and Maquenque wetlands, the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge and the Jardín Forest Reserve.
Soon after this, another La Cureña Forest Reserve is found in two provinces, Alajuela and Heredia. It was created with the purpose of protecting the remnant of greater extension of very humid forest that exists along the right margin of the San Juan River. This reserve is part of the National Wildlife Refuge Maquenque, this, to transform it into a biological reserve with the purpose of protecting the Lapa Verde, species in danger of extinction.
The Juan Castro Blanco National Park is a special and unique place for those who want to deviate a little from their path and enjoy the road and eco-tourism. The park is known for its primary and tropical forests and is an excellent place to enjoy bird watching.
It has three volcanoes: the Volcano Porvenir, the volcano Platanar and the Volcano El Viejo. These volcanoes have the peculiarity of providing thermal waters that flow into the rivers and can be found throughout the park. If you are a lover of history, it is also an excellent destination, as there have been archaeological discoveries that indicated that it was used as a meeting point for the ancient civilizations of Costa Rica.
Finally we arrive at the Poás Volcano, symbol of the powerful geo-thermal forces that shaped Costa Rica. Located in Alajuela you can take walks, visit coffee plantations and La Paz Waterfall Gardens, a very visited place, which you can see in two ways, going to La Paz Waterfall Gardens, where you will see the waterfalls closer and a lots of animals, birds, among others, or by road.
